NOTICE
A Belgian painter and sculptor, he trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Tournai and worked with Marcel Degand and Joseph Lacasse. Influenced by the Ecole de Paris, most of his artistic output came from drawing, for which he won prizes and citations at the academy, and painting. His art is strongly influenced by academic teaching and naturalism. A talented draughtsman, he was also a decorator, and initiated projects for churches and theaters.
His style gradually evolved towards a highly personal expressionism, characterized by pared-down forms and contrasting colors.
Works by Jean Leroy are exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tournai and at the Ministry of Culture in Brussels.
