NOTICE
Trained at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Limoges, then at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, it was through one of his teachers, a close friend of the painter Armand Guillaumin, that he was introduced to Impressionism. He studied in Cormon's studio, became interested in plein-air painting and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1909. Appointed drawing teacher in Algiers in 1913, he discovered Orientalism and the work of Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse, Etienne Vinet and Eugène Deshayes. He befriended Henry Chevalier and became a member of the Société des Artistes algériens et orientalistes.
A painter of vibrant colors, he delighted in composing delicately executed views of intense chromaticism, between the landscapes of Algiers and those of southern France, which he loved on vacation. In 1934, when he became administrator of the Société des Artistes Algériens, he exhibited landscapes of Aveyron and Lot, as well as views of Saint-Tropez.
The Musée National des Beaux-Arts in Algiers regularly acquired some of his paintings to enrich its collections.
