This photograph is the cover of the book "Ile Seguin, derniers éclats, 2002-2005," exhibition catalog, Galerie Arnoux, May 22-June 29, 2008. For three years, from 2002 to 2005, Hubert Fanthomme, artist photographer and Paris Match star, was able to obtain official permission to follow the destruction of the legendary Renault factories in Boulogne-Billancourt. Between the stranded ocean liner and the industrial cathedral, he captured the final moments in the life of a piece of French history. Gradually purchased by Louis Renault in 1919, Ile Seguin was once the domain of the monks of St Victor's Abbey, a royal estate, the army's largest leather tannery at the very beginning of the 20th century, then the island of painters, where Sisley and Turner passed through. The Renault factories on the Île Seguin were mythical because they were based on Henry Ford's assembly lines. They were also the site of the great social struggles of May 68. Numerous black-and-white archive images are available. The factories closed in 1989, and up until 1998, the Seguin Island was the object of all manner of patrimonial and political scrutiny, before they were finally demolished in the 2000s.
