NOTICE
This portrait was painted by a member of the entourage of François de Troy, father of the painter Jean-François de TROY (1679-1752), admitted to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture on July 28, 1708.
"He studied first under Nicolas Loir and some time later under Claude Lefèvre, a famous portrait painter. This is what determined him for this genre, in which he soon excelled. His genius was vast, as befits a history painter. Some of the works we see of his are proof of this. It was as a history painter that he was admitted to the Académie royale in 1694; his reception piece depicts Mercure endormant Argus." - Joseph Malliot (1736-1811), Vie de quelques artistes dont les ouvrages font l'ornement de la ville de Toulouse.
Numerous portraits of François de Troy are documented, including those of Jules-Hardouin Mansart, Marie-Anne de Bavière, Madame de Montespan and Louis-Auguste de Bourbon. He was also chosen by Louis XIV to paint the portrait of the Dauphine.
Our portrait is executed with great finesse and attention to detail. The young woman's expression is graceful and gentle. Great attention is paid to the complexion, fabrics and accessories of this elegant woman.
