Héloïse LELOIR (1820-1874) - Illustrated fashion - Lot 80
Héloïse LELOIR (1820-1874) - Illustrated fashion Lot comprising two fashion engravings in color. Framed under glass. 31 x 22.5 cm (Freckles, slight traces of humidity) Note Héloïse Leloir is well known to costume historians. She was one of the best illustrators of fashionable dresses during the reign of Napoleon III. Her father was Alexandre Colin (1797-1873), a famous French Romantic painter. A talented draftswoman, she exhibited her first drawings at the Salon of 1835, and distinguished herself through her mastery of the watercolor technique. Héloïse and her two sisters, Colin-born Anaïs Toudouze (1822-1899) and Laure Noël (1827-1892), were the three greatest illustrators of Parisian fashion in the mid-19th century. Héloïse's watercolors were reproduced in La Mode illustrée, Le journal des Demoiselles and Le Bon Ton. Elegant women are depicted wearing the latest fashionable dresses, in bourgeois interiors or landscapes.
