NOTICE
A Franco-Italian painter, he trained at the Valery Larbaud Academy with Robert Mermet as his teacher. After a spell at the Aix-en-Provence art school, he moved to the Gard region in 1975, where he met Claude Viallat at an exhibition, who introduced him to American painting. In 1979, he moved to the Luberon region, where he began a period of collages using recycled sheets, which he burned in the fireplace, enhanced with black and white.
After a trip to Morocco in 1989, he returned for an exhibition he prepared for the Johannes Schilling gallery in Cologne in 1990, the catalog of which was prefaced by Jean Lacouture, a friend of the artist.
In 2001, Gérard Testa moved to Morocco. At Art Gallery Matisse in Marrakech in 2006, he presented works made with industrial materials, which he revealed using trichloroethylene, in which black plays an important role. In 2010, he exhibited at the Galeries nationales in Rabat.
