Jean DESPRÉS (1889-1980), circa 1930 Important modernist freeform pendant in silver and yellow gold. Signed "Jean Després" on the tip, goldsmith's hallmark and guarantee hallmark on the reverse. Net weight: 30 grams Length: 9.5 cm Width: 2 cm (Minimal scratches) PROVENANCE Galerie Hegoa, 16 rue de Beaune 75007 Paris. A similar pendant was sold on December 02, 2016 by Ader Maison de ventes in Drouot, lot 84. NOTICE A French goldsmith and jeweler trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in his father's jeweler's workshop, Jean Després became a major figure in Art Deco. From the 1920s onwards, he devoted himself to jewelry, creating pieces in silver-plated metal, silver and yellow gold with geometric shapes inspired by cubism and aviation. Admired by Joséphine Baker and Paul Signac, his work is now on display at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
