A pupil of Charles Joshua Chaplin and Carolus-Duran, she exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1874 and became a recognized artist of her time. Her works, imbued with modernity and femininity, reflect her interest in themes of daily life and feminine representations. An intimate of Sarah Bernhardt, the actress was a great source of inspiration for the painter, who also decorated the salon of her Paris townhouse. After numerous trips to Algeria and England, her works were exhibited in museums such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Petit Palais, testifying to her talent and influence in the art world of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. An emancipated woman, she decided to pursue her career freely, rejecting marriage and family life, and became the sixth woman to receive the Légion d'Honneur, crowning her entire career. Her famous mantra "I want" dictated her choices and led her to recognition.
