Lucien-Victor GUIRAND DE SCÉVOLA (1871-1950) The Voyeur Watercolor and gouache on paper Signed "Guirand de Scévola" upper right 21 x 15.5 cm Framed PROVENANCE Private collection NOTICE French painter, draughtsman and illustrator, he excelled in alcove scenes, landscapes, still lifes with flowers and portraits. A student of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he specialized in pastels. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, then at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, where he became an associate and later a committee member. Leading a bohemian lifestyle on the Butte Montmartre, he struck up friendly relationships with Charles Léandre, Louis Abel-Truchet, Abel Faivre and Adolphe Léon Willette. He was a member of the Mortigny circle, which included many artists: Marcel Bain, Paul Poiret, Bernard Boutet de Monvel, Georges Villa, Guy Arnoux, Joseph Pinchon, André Warnod, Pierre Falize and Henri Callot.
