NOTICE
Born in Eleusis, Greece, and trained as an architect, he designed public and private buildings in Athens, then took part in the construction of the city of Brasilia after the Second World War, on the advice of Le Corbusier. He moved to Paris in 1953 and designed theater sets for the Gaîté Montparnasse, before devoting himself entirely to painting. Considered a "tachiste" painter by critics of the time, he transcended reality by using thick paste, working directly with his hands. Tsingos' works straddle the border between figuration and abstraction, as illustrated by his famous Flowers series, or the animals and insects he executed in a more violent reality. A retrospective of his work was held in Athens in 1965 and at the Centre Pompidou in 1980.
