NOTICE
Originally from Catalonia, he trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, where he took classes with Fernando Amorsolo, Dominador Castaneda and Ireneo Miranda. He organized his first solo exhibition during a stay in Paris, before returning to the Philippines, where he had grown up. In 1964, his work "Leuers" was voted "Print of the Year" by the Cleveland Museum of Art, placing Sanso alongside previous winners such as Henri Matisse and Salvador Dali. That same year, he organized a major exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as shows at the prestigious Philadelphia Print Club and the Weyhe Gallery in New York.
In 1989, he reached a milestone with six simultaneous exhibitions in Manila at the Metropolitan Museum, the Lopez Museum, the Ayala Museum, the Spanish Cultural Center, the Alliance Française and the Finale Art File.
Beginning his career with complex compositions reflecting his anxiety, his style evolves towards superb, surrealistic floral bouquets embellished with human faces. The flower is his favorite motif, which he works in watercolor, ink or acrylic. He also produces engravings with strong, dynamic lines. An innovative artist, his work is now famous the world over and particularly sought-after.
