Eugène-Nestor DE KERMADEC (1899-1976) Abstract composition Watercolor on paper Signed "E de Kermadec" lower right, stamped on reverse 20 x 28 cm Framed PROVENANCE Private collection NOTICE A painter, he studied at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He joined the cubist movement in 1918; like his illustrious predecessors (Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Georges Braque, Henri Laurens), his work was represented by Galerie Louise Leiris. In 1973, the Galerie Annick Gendron held its first retrospective of his work. A tennis enthusiast, an excellent second-set player and father of Gil de Kermadec, he was known to the general public as a referee, notably during matches at Roland Garros.
