NOTICE Per Linnemann-Schmidt (b. 1912, Copenhagen), son of Danish sculptor Willie Wulff, studied drawing, plaster and bronze sculpture at the Royal Academy of Art, Copenhagen, from 1931. After working as a sculptor (notably of portraits) in the 1930s-1940s, in 1949 he joined forces with his wife Annelise (née Sprechler) to found the Palshus Stentøj studio in Sengeløse, near Copenhagen. In this company, Per was responsible for the design and production of tableware, vases, lamps and stoneware, while Annelise managed the organization and running of the workshop. In particular, Per developed and perfected glazing techniques, including the use of a matt glaze known as "Haresfur", characteristic of certain Palshus productions. Their production, active mainly in the 1950s-1960s, is characterized by functional and decorative objects in a sober, typically Scandinavian style, with natural tones (blues, browns, beiges, greens) and a simple yet refined aesthetic. Among their most representative works are ceramic lamps, vases and tableware by Palshus, now sought after for their craftsmanship, authenticity and timeless elegance. After Annelise's untimely death in 1969, the Palshus workshop closed for good in 1972. Per Linnemann-Schmidt then returned to his primary vocation: drawing, painting and sculpture, before passing away in 1999. With their exacting standards and mastery, Per and Annelise Linnemann-Schmidt have contributed to giving Palshus objects a presence and authenticity that continue to seduce lovers of Nordic design.
