NOTICE A French painter active in the Parisian art scene in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Georges Chénard-Huché's work is distinguished by its mix of vivid landscapes, urban scenes and Impressionist-inspired naturalistic compositions. Trained by Fernand Cormon in Paris, he exhibited regularly from 1887 onwards at the Salon des artistes français, before joining the ranks of the Salon des indépendants, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, thus asserting his presence in the avant-garde and traditional circles of his time. His views of snow-covered Montmartre and the Canal Saint-Martin reflect an acute sensitivity to atmospheric effects and changes in the city, as well as a rigorous observation of Parisian life during the Belle Époque. These qualities earned him the interest of public institutions: one of his canvases, Le Vignoble, was acquired by the French government in 1927 and is now housed at the Musée d'Orsay. Beyond these urban scenes, Chénard-Huché also tackled landscape, marine and still-life motifs, as well as the intimist studies frequently encountered on the contemporary art market and appreciated for their masterful craftsmanship. Parallel to his career as a painter, in 1889 he founded the Société des peintres et graveurs de Paris, whose works he exhibited until 1912 at various salons and international events in Buenos-Aires, Munich, Zurich and Stockholm, attesting to the extent of his recognition in Europe.
