NOTICE Jacques Nestlé, born Arthur Ludwig Jakob Nestle, was a Franco-German painter and graphic artist whose career was at the crossroads of the European avant-gardes of the XXᵉ century. He left his native region for Paris, where he worked in a lithographic printing house and befriended Henri Matisse, who encouraged his early drawings. In 1925, he moved to Berlin, where the ideas of the Bauhaus had a lasting influence on his artistic sensibility. Forced to leave Germany in 1933, he adopted the name Jacques Nestlé and settled permanently in France. His work evolved towards a form of painting in which figuration gradually dissolved in favor of lyrical abstraction, marked by freedom of gesture and sustained attention to color. Jacques Nestlé left behind a rich body of work, oscillating between modernist heritage and sensitive expression.
